Short bio:
I grew up in Western Washington State, started in the Chemical Engineering program at the University of Washington right out of high school. Hated it, and switched to Electrical Engineering, most enjoying the digital side of things and firmware programming. Embedded Systems seemed the obvious career choice. Moved to LA in 2003 to work with a start-up company. I'm still working for Cantaloupe Systems, now located in Berkeley, CA.
Skating Bio:
Got my first pair of skates when I was 12, and spent the next summer playing street hockey at an outdoor court in Fircrest, WA. Kept skating, trying tricks, ramp and vert skating for a short while, then started training in 1999 to enter the Seattle Super Skate, a 25 mi skate from Redmond to Seattle. I skated to class everyday my first two years at UW, on my Hypno detachable frame skates, including all the rainy days, and once when it snowed. Continued distance skating until 2003 when I moved to LA to escape the Washington rain, and started skating with the LA Beachskaters, and bought my first pair of speed skates. In 2003 I finished the Athens to Atlanta 87 mi skate, completing a 4-year goal, despite having severe leg cramps from mile 38 until the finish (don't forget your salt). In 2004 I started seriously training for racing and joined team LA Speed.
